The Costley Farm Heritage Trail Loop in Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia, is one of the best-kept secrets in the Halifax Regional Municipality. This scenic trail is just a 20-minute drive from Downtown Halifax and only 15 minutes from Downtown Dartmouth, making it a perfect quick getaway for outdoor enthusiasts of all levels.
This trail is my personal favourite in Cole Harbour Heritage Park, and for good reason. It is a perfect easy day hike with everything you could wish for: gorgeous coastal views, serene rest areas with benches, and a magical forest setting filled with unique natural details. Whether you’re a local looking for a new walking spot or a visitor seeking the beauty of Nova Scotia’s coastline, this trail won’t disappoint.

The Costley Farm Heritage Trail Loop offers a bit of everything—open water views, shady paths through the woods, and tranquil spots to pause, relax, and take in the surroundings.
It’s a 4.5 km loop, and you’ll want to give yourself 1 to 2 hours to fully enjoy it, depending on how many photos you stop to take (and you’ll want to take a lot!).
This trail is especially beautiful in the early morning or late afternoon light, with views that stretch out over the Cole Harbour Salt Marsh. There are lovely spots to pause and take in the surroundings, including benches that invite you to relax and enjoy the peace.
Even though the trail isn’t marked, it’s relatively easy to follow. That said, I always recommend using the AllTrails app to keep you on track.

The trail terrain is mostly flat and easy, making it ideal for families, beginner hikers, or anyone looking for a peaceful walk in nature.
