We had a wonderful time in Parrsboro. However, our adventure began a bit earlier. Our weekend getaway in Nova Scotia started at a beautiful farm, where we had a blast of excitement while feeding and petting the animals. After this overload of cuteness, it was time to hit the road and check in at one of the most gorgeous Airbnbs in Nova Scotia. On the weekends, we get to explore charming Parrsboro, unique museums, and incredible nature gems in the area. This Nova Scotia getaway experience is truly unforgettable.
Every place added some unique flavour to this fantastic adventure in Nova Scotia. Here is the full getaway itinerary:
- Feed and pet adorable animals at That Dutchman’s Cheese Farm
- Stay at gorgeous 8 Island View Cottage
- Explore charming Parrsboro
- Visit the Age of Sail Museum
- Hilke to Ward Falls
- Stop at Five Islands Lighthouse Park
- Check out the Five Islands Provincial Park
Here’s my YouTube video from this adventure
Now, let’s explore these incredible experiences in more detail.
That Dutchman’s Cheese Farm
This is one of the most memorable experiences of this weekend getaway. That Dutchman’s Cheese Farm in Upper Economy, Nova Scotia, exceeded my expectations. It’s a fantastic place where you’d want to spend at least 2-3 hours or even more.
First we headed to the Cheese Shop to pay the admission fee, purchase tokens for food dispensers, taste and buy delicious cheese, and check out the antiques collection.
After that, we went to meet adorable farm animals. They stole my heart! The farm animals here were so friendly and extremely cute. It’s such a joy to feed and pet them. There are many trails and different animals: goats, rabbits, emus, pigs, sheep, swans, highland cattle, a horse, a cow, and my absolute favourite—a donkey.
Interacting with all these friendly cuties was an unforgettable experience, and I wish we had more time here.
Incredible 8 Island View Cottage
This is definitely one of the best Airbnb stays in Nova Scotia. This cottage is spectacular. It is cozy and beautiful and has everything you could wish for in an Airbnb: a full high-end kitchen, a deck with a fantastic hot tub, stunning views, a beautiful interior, you name it.
8 Island View Cottage is absolutely gorgeous, and the views are mind-blowing. It was an unforgettable experience to watch the most magical sunrises from the balcony and deck. There are also stunning views from every window. You can see the water from the front and the back.
But we were especially impressed with all the details. It’s incredible how much thought is put into every little thing! Every shelf, painting, hot cup coaster, and soap dish supported the beach cottage theme. We spend much time just marvelling at all these small, meaningful details.
This wonderful stay was a highlight of our weekend getaway in Parrsboro, Nova Scotia. We spent two wonderful nights here and also enjoyed exploring the beautiful surroundings during the day.
Charming Parrsboro
This town has a special vibe. It’s cozy, beautiful, and it has so much to offer. There are many museums, unique places, and beautiful views.
Here are my top recommendations:
- Parrsboro Boat Launch
- Painted birdhouses and lighthouses
- Glooscap statue
- Two Islands Brewing
- Tyson’s Fine Minerals
- Tidal Park
- Ottawa House By-The-Sea Museum
- Fundy Geological Museum
Our first stop was by the Parrsboro Boat Launch. There are big chairs and an amazing lighthouse view. This landscape looks completely different during high and low tides, so check the tide schedule and choose when to go.
Walking through the charming Parrsboro streets is a great way to experience local art. I love finding little details like these cute birdhouses or small lighthouses painted by local artists and enjoying this beauty.
One of the must-visit attractions is the Glooscap statue. Glooscap is an important legendary figure of the Mi’kmaq people. I’m so happy we got to visit this place in October. The colourful autumn leaves on these massive trees added a unique charm to this lovely park.
To immerse yourself even more in the fantastic vibe of this lovely town, check out the Two Islands Brewing. We enjoyed delicious beer and great live music here.
Tysons’ Fine Minerals is another excellent place in Parrsboro. There are gorgeous world minerals and jewelry. So much beauty in one spot! It’s like a fantastic museum where you can purchase everything. And here’s a tip for someone on a tight budget like us – check out the drawers; you can find beautiful minerals at affordable prices starting from 3 dollars.
To learn about the famous tides of the Bay of Fundy make sure to visit Tidal Park in Parrsboro. There are a lot of interesting information and beautiful views.
Another must-visit destination is the Ottawa House By-The-Sea Museum. It looks like a great museum, but unfortunately, it was closed for the season. But there’s also an incredible beach with stunning views. Parking is right on the beach, but drive carefully and be aware of the tides. This landscape also changes during the high and low tides. From this beach, you can see the gorgeous Cape Split view. Check my post about the Kingsport getaway experience to learn about this epic hike.
Fundy Geological Museum is the place with lots of great reviews, and I would recommend adding it to your Parrsboro itinerary. Unfortunately, we didn’t have enough time to visit it, but I’m saving it for my next getaway adventure in this area.
Age of Sail Museum
This place is an incredible combination of history and nature. This awesome heritage museum is a must-visit for people who want to learn the history of shipbuilding, lumbering, and the local community. And it’s located in such a gorgeous place! It’s a hidden gem just a 20-minute drive from Parrsboro.
Ward Falls
This is a beautiful waterfall and a great hike. It is a relatively easy 6.5-kilometre out-and-back trail. It was muddy in some places, with a section with a steep hill and rope. But we were amazed by the bridges. There are a lot of them, which makes this hike so cool and exciting. Check Ward Falls on AllTrails for trail map, info, recent reviews and more.
The waterfall is fantastic. I wish we had more time to climb that ladder and explore what’s out there. We’ll have to come back another time to do so. Once again, we had to hike back through the forest in the dark, which again reminded us of our Cape Split hike.
Five Island Lighthouse Park
On Sunday, we checked out of Airbnb and headed back toward Halifax. But our getaway adventure in Nova Scotia has not yet ended. We stopped at Five Island Lighthouse Park to enjoy some spectacular views and to see the cute lighthouse.
Five Island Provincial Park
I have wanted to explore this stunning place for quite some time. The plan was to hike the incredible Red Head Trail and maybe check out the beach, but the road leading there was closed for the season, so we decided to check out another trail nearby: Estuary Loop.
I’m not sure about it, but it looks like it would still be possible to get to Red Head by continuing further on this trail. However, it would be a much longer hike, and we didn’t plan enough time to finish it. So here’s another reason to come back to this gorgeous part of Nova Scotia and explore it thoroughly. You can find map, info, recent reviews and much more about Estuary Loop and Red Head Trail on AllTrails.
After this busy and wonderful weekend getaway, it was finally time to go home. On our way back, we were rewarded with a stunning sunset that fired up even more of the already gorgeous fall colours.
