This is an absolutely breathtaking destination that has it all. Taylor Head Provincial Park offers a stunning beach with white sparkling sand and turquoise water, spectacular trails with changing terrain and incredible scenery, beautiful wooden paths, amenities, and much more. Surprisingly, most tourists have yet to discover this astonishing place. So hurry to explore Taylor Head Provincial Park while it’s still pretty quiet. Let me show you its wild beauty.
Taylor Head Beach
It’s one of the most beautiful beaches in Nova Scotia. Taylor Head Beach looks like a postcard with its shiny white sand and the incredible colour of the water. The shoreline is also quite long, which makes it a perfect place to enjoy walking by the water. The sounds of crashing waves, the smell of the ocean, soft sand, and breathtaking beauty — such a perfect combination to relax and unwind.
Taylor Head Provincial Park Amenities
Wooden paths to the beach, picnic tables, toilets, and changing rooms make a visit much more comfortable and enjoyable. Most amenities are located by parking lots #1 and #4. However, all parking lots are close to each other, so it’s a short walk between them. The only inconvenience is getting to the parking lot — a few kilometres of unpaved road. It was in a pretty good shape, though.
Headland Trail Tailor Head Provincial Park
About the hike:
- Distance: 8 km
- Difficulty – advanced
- Hiking time – 3-6 hours
Headland Trail (or Yellow Trail) is an extended loop that includes the shorter Spry Bay Trail (or Red Trail). This is an absolutely gorgeous hiking trail with incredible scenery. You can also hike a shorter 4 km loop, but you’ll miss out on some of the most stunning viewpoints. Views on the Headland Trail are mesmerizing, and you’ll get some of these on Spry Bay Trail, too, but not all of them.
One of the most astonishing things about this hike is its diversity. On this 8 km loop, you’ll walk through the forest, take some wooden paths, hike on rocks, and enjoy coastal landscapes. This changing terrain adds different layers of beauty to the Headland Trail, making it one of the most gorgeous hikes in Nova Scotia I’ve had to enjoy so far.
Another incredible feature of this scenic hiking loop is the unique rock formations. There are so many of them! It was impossible to capture them all. Just look at these gorgeous rocks!
Headland Trail is spectacular but be prepared for its challenges. The path is very narrow, which is okay if there are few people. But on a busy day, it could be a problem. Some sections were muddy, and some were completely overgrown. Sometimes, it was even hard to see a path under all this vegetation, and a lot of bushwhacking was required. It was the most unpleasant part of the hike, and most of it was before the halfway viewpoint of Headland Trail (if you go clockwise).
It felt like the best part started after that. There was a big staircase and rocks to hike on, but the trail became more comfortable and enjoyable. That’s also where the best views started and more traffic. It looks like most people go counterclockwise and explore all these views first or just hike to the halfway point and go back.
Scenic views and all the challenges give Headland Trail a special vibe and sense of adventure. But it’s also important to notice little things. They add another captivating layer of enjoyment to this hike. Noticing birds, unique vegetation, and all the details make this experience much better.

Hiking the Headland Trail and relaxing on Taylor Head Beach was an unforgettable experience, and I hope that one day, you’ll enjoy it as much as I did. But I have one special request for you — please respect nature and leave nothing but footprints. Let’s keep all these stunning places clean and beautiful for everyone to enjoy!
