This is a perfect combo for a magnificent 2-day adventure in our spectacular province.
Burntcoat Head Park
Our adventure begins in Burntcoat Head Park, where tides rise and fall twice a day, drastically changing the landscape.
The view is spectacular when everything is covered with water. It is such a joy to explore short trails and lighthouse while waiting for the low tide.
And then the best experience begins. Noting beets the opportunity to walk on the ocean floor during low tide, and there’s even a staircase in Burntcoat Head Park to make it easy. Exploring the sea caves and unique sculptures created by the force of nature leaves you speechless.
The colours, the shapes of the cliffs and just the fact that you’re walking on the ocean floor, which will be covered in water again in a few hours, create an unforgettable experience.
The average tide is 47.5 feet high (14,5 metres), and it comes in fast, covering the Bay of Fundy and Minas Basin with 160 billion tons of water.
Cozy camper
After a day of exploring Burntcoat Head Park, the best thing to do is enjoy a quiet, peaceful evening. We rented a cozy camper near Walton. Its beautiful retro style stole my heart, and I loved all the cute little details.
It was a few minutes walk to the farm, where we admired the beauty of gorgeous Arabian horses for a bit and then returned to our charming stay.
The hammock with the view, a couple of local beers, a stunning sunset, and a cozy evening by the fire made it a perfect getaway. The night was warm and quiet, and we woke up ready for the next adventure.
Pembroke beach
Another magnificent place to experience the highest tides in the world and unique landscapes was peaceful and quiet. We didn’t see anyone, just us and nature.
The first thing that meets the eye on Pembroke Beach is the waterfall. We took some photos, but the tide had already started rising, and with not much time left to explore the ocean floor, it was important to hurry.
We ventured to the right and admired unique stones and cliffs. The most interesting is the one with a monkey face. It was such a remarkable sight, but a few seconds later, the beach arch revealed itself for the first time. It was much bigger than I expected and had a hidden beach behind it.
However, with the rising tide, it was dangerous to venture further, so after a few photos of this astonishing arch on the beach, it was time to head back.
Walton Harbour Lighthouse
This is a unique place! There are many lighthouses in Nova Scotia, but this is the one where you can talk to the lightkeeper, learn history, soak up a lot of interesting information, and even turn on the lighting mechanism. How cool is that? It gets better, though. There’s a ceremonial presentation of the certificate for turning on the light mechanism!
It was a unique experience, and it was free. However, it’s worth it to make a donation, which we did. So, just a word of advice: bring some cash.
Here, you can learn and see how the tides change as well. The ocean comes out 2,5 kilometres during the low tide and then returns to the shore when the tide is rising.
We also ventured on a short trail by the lighthouse. It’s a short easy walk in the forest to the viewpoint
Walton Pub & Eatery
After all the exploring, we were hungry. We decided to fix it at Walton Pub & Eatery. The food was delicious, and the portions were ample. We enjoyed tasty fish & chips and yummy fries & clams. Then, full of energy, we continued our adventure.
Bramber Flower Pot Rock
This stunning and unique place was a big surprise. It’s where we experienced the most how tides change the landscape.
We came to this stunning beach. It was different from the other places on this adventure. There were no red cliffs, just black and grey. The ocean gently touched the beautiful, narrow beach.
When the tide started falling, we ventured to the left to explore the unique rock formations. It was such a stunning place. This absolutely incredible landscape, and all these carvings on the rocks looked like unique and expensive art. But they were created by the best artist — our magnificent nature — for us to enjoy.
We spent some time admiring this mind-blowing landscape. When we came back to the beach, it looked completely different. There wasn’t any narrow string of shore edged by the water. There was just vast land. The ocean was far away.
