One of Nova Scotia’s most beautiful waterfalls is well hidden in the forest and not easily accessible. It’s just a short distance from the road, but you’ll encounter multiple brook crossings or steep hills. But once you get there, all the challenges will be worth it! The view of Drysdale Falls is spectacular from every angle, and you appreciate it much more after the challenging hike.
At the top of Drysdale Falls
It’s breathtaking to stand above the waterfall, mesmerized by the power of nature! There is so much strength in this falling water, so much beauty. The sight at the top of Drysdale Falls leaves you speechless.
At the base of Drysdale Falls
There are some rocks to stand on and enjoy this incredible sight. After the rains, you can even spot another smaller waterfall on the right. But the best way to enjoy the beauty of Drysdale Falls is from the water. That’s why it’s better to visit this spectacular hidden gem in summer.
How to get to Drysdale Falls

Park alongside Balmoral Rd, near the little bridge above the Baileys Brook. Find an entrance to the trail and then stick to the water.
About the trail to Drysdale Falls
- Distance from the road – around 700 m.
- Difficulty – easy/advanced
- Hiking time – approximately 15-25 min one-way
There are two paths to the waterfall. One is down alongside the brook. Sometimes, the path disappears into the water. You’ll have to cross the water several times, and it could be pretty deep. The best time to visit is summer. For recent reviews and photos, trail map, current conditions and more check Drysdale Falls Trail on AllTrails.
There’s another trail up in the forest. Follow the path alongside the brook. It could be an easy route all the way to the top of Drysdale Falls. But on our visit, we encountered a lot of fallen trees, so add possible bushwhacking and tree trunk climbing to the list of challenges. Getting to the base of the falls from this trail would be hard but still possible. There’s a very steep hill, so if you attempt it, be careful.
