Nova Scotia is a beautiful Canadian province that I’m lucky to call home. It’s a wonderful place for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts.
There are still many wild places where you’ll rarely encounter another human being, so you can truly immerse yourself in wonderful nature and enjoy the serenity of Nova Scotia’s hidden gems. There are also popular hiking trails, beaches, and iconic places to share with others.
The landscape of Nova Scotia is spectacular and diverse. I was surprised to see how many lakes (over 3000) and waterfalls (over 800, according to Wikipedia list) could exist on its relatively small territory. I don’t know how accurate these numbers are, but they are overwhelming anyway. The Nature of Nova Scotia is spectacular and has a lot to offer.
Impressive waterfalls
Nova Scotia is rich in these gorgeous jewels. I’ve seen many of them, but there are still so many to discover. Each one is unique and astonishing in its way.
Some waterfalls of Nova Scotia are hidden in the forest, like Ettinger Falls, Crystal Falls and Wentworth Falls, while others are right on the beach, like Baxter’s Harbour Falls and Margaretsville Beach Waterfall.
To some, you’ll have to take challenging roads and muddy trails, like Butcher Hills Falls and Liscomb River Falls, while others provide well-built paths leading to them, like Joe Howe and Waddell Falls.
Spectacular beaches
White sands, red sands, grey rocks, and the alluring Atlantic Ocean — Nova Scotia has it all. The diversity of landscapes is breathtaking, and the beaches of Nova Scotia are eager to surprise!
Every new discovery left me speechless, from the white sands and turquoise waters of Carters Beach, which almost feels like Caribbean Paradise, to the red Houston’s Beach with its unique landscape, which makes you wonder, “Are you still on Planet Earth?”
The Art of Nature
Astonishing carvings, red islands and sea caves made by the force of the ocean look insane! The magnificent landscapes of the Bay of Fundy and Minas Basin are a true treasure of Nova Scotia. These places are an absolute must-see and explore.
Here, you can experience the highest tides in the world, walk on the ocean floor, enjoy astonishing scenery, and admire the impressive art of nature. And the best part — these places in Nova Scotia are yet to be discovered by the majority of tourists. They are serene and not overcrowded. It’s a magical experience to have all this beauty to yourself.
Unique rock formations
Nova Scotia is undoubtedly beautiful and never ceases to amaze with its unique natural treasures. Its rock formations are incredible, like the granite of iconic Peggy’s Cove (a well-known tourist site with the most famous lighthouse in Canada).
Another natural wonder of Nova Scotia is the Balancing Rock. It is such a unique sight: a long vertical basalt column balancing on its tip makes you wonder how it’s still standing. A similar feeling awakens when you see the Rolling Rock at the Admiral Lake Trail Loop. And you can touch and even climb this one. Another place worth exploring is Baxter Harbour, which has endless wonders.
This is my short list of Nova Scotia’s natural wonders. I’ll share more details about each place in my next posts. Many of Nova Scotia’s treasures have yet to be discovered, and I’m eager to embark on new adventures!
