This picturesque town was probably the best discovery during our vacation in Germany. Füssen simply has it all: stunning landscapes, cozy streets with beautiful architecture, a blue lake, and something else so valuable – peace and serenity.
This lovely town wasn’t crowded with tourists, which was surprising, considering its proximity to Bavarian fairytale castles. It’s only about a 10-minute drive from Füssen to Neuschwanstein Castle. Accommodation prices weren’t too bad either. This Bavarian hidden gem was so beautiful and serene that I wish we could stay there longer and explore more.
But even only one day is enough for these TOP 3 things to do in Fussen, Germany:
- Visit Lechfall and enjoy the gorgeous landscape,
- Wonder through the streets of the Old Town,
- Enjoy the tranquillity and stunning views by the Forggensee Lake.
All three are perfect for a year-round experience.
Lechfall, Füssen and stunning landscapes
It’s a magnificent place with a spectacular view. This stunning waterfall is located on the Lech River and is surrounded by gorgeous Bavarian Alps. The combination of falling water strength, towering mountains, and a flowing river creates a unique atmosphere, making it one of the best outdoor attractions in Fussen.
Lechfall can look different throughout the year. On our summer visit, it was powerful and had a muddy colour. However, I saw some stunning winter footage from this place. Waterfall was powerful as well, but it had clear blue waters.
Streets of Füssen Old Town
Cozy vibes, beautiful architecture, and a lovely atmosphere flow in each direction. I really enjoyed the feeling of Fussen’s Old Town as much as its beauty. There were just enough people to create a perfect vibe, but no crowds.
All these photos above were taken on our way from Lechfall to Forggensee Lake. For your one-day on-foot Füssen itinerary, you can visit these places in the same order.
Tranquility and stunning views by the Forggensee Lake
This peaceful and serene place is excellent for recharging and relaxation. The lake’s colour is magnificent, and the views are gorgeous. Forggensee Lake is another perfect addition to your bucket list of outdoor attractions in Fussen and an ideal ending point for your tourist itinerary.
For your summer visit, make sure to pack a swimming suit. The waters of Forggensee Lake in Fussen are alluring to swim in and could be quite warm. It was a lovely experience.
You can explore these TOP 3 things to do in Fussen in summer and winter. It could be a little different, but I’m sure it’s still worth it! If you are planning a longer stay, check out some trails in the area. They should be awesome. I’ll have to come back for them next time.
